Can Debt Make You Homeless In America?
I recently came across a brief article in a
real estate blog called "Active Rain", about homelessness.
It included photographs of tent cities, where none had
been before. These tent cities were occupied by what was
once just regular working class people, just like you and me.
You would think the photos were taken in a
third world country. In fact, they were taken in
Colorado Springs. If you are reading this article, chances
are, you are not homeless.
It is a stark reminder of how grateful we all need to be
just to have a roof over where we sleep.
I realize that this piece may seem somewhat
off topic for this Credit Counseling Newsletter, however
really it is not. The simple truth is that all and any
of us are just one step away at all times from being
where these people are. One crises followed by another
is all it takes to push us financially over.
One way to guard against this is never to allow
yourself to be a debt slave. Debt slavery pushes you
that much closer to the edge, and the taskmaster is
never merciful. This article is not an advertisement
